Traditional Rugs are a long established norm of Interior Design. They have a very loyal and earnest following that has remained steadfast for centuries. As the name denotes, these patterns go best in classic settings that typically lean toward a formal perspective; however there are "dressed down" designs that suit casual Decor also.
When you're talking about Intermediate, middle, or midway between Traditional and Modern Style, Transitional Rugs are what you're looking for. Transitional Rug Designs break free from the style norms structured around traditional and/or modern designs. And they can stand alone, or easily assimilate into either Traditional or Modern Decor flawlessly. Their recent popularity has been driven by the desire for unconventional Decor in updated fashion colors
Modern is all the rage, trendsetting, stylish, voguish, modish, chic and unmistakably contemporary styled Decor. As a relatively recent addition to the Area Rug Design Industry, there is now an abundant selection on the market to choose from.
Handknotted City rugs are woven in metropolis weaving centers. Their patterns are often programmed, meaning the same design is reproduced in many different sizes with colors that match perfectly. These weaving centers conform to a more formal and intricate curvilinear weaving style that exudes an indisputably regal flair.
A long time staple of Interior Design, hand Knotted Village Rugs are made in self-contained districts or communities. Individual families weave right in their homes or centralized cottage weaving houses. The rug styles are more geometrized and less formal. Like City Rugs, these rugs have patterns that have been reproduced in multiple sizes; however village weavers do not do exact color matching. This means there will be inherently unique characteristics that pertain to each rug.
Hand knotted Nomadic Rugs are typically made by tribes people that migrate through various regions. These rugs embody rustic elegance, and often boast true one-of-a-kind designs. The rug pictured here is of a Nomadic variety originating from the Tekke Nomads of The Caucuses. The design is commonly known as the "Bokhara".
