Heat Set Polypropylene
A heat set polypropylene rug is one in which the yarn is processed to produce soft fibers that are resistant to wear and tear and repel stains. This type of rug is antistatic, which makes vacuuming easier because animal hairs and lint don't easily adhere to the fibers. Not to be confused with the poor quality Bulk Continuous Fiber Polypropylene (aka BCF), “Heat-Set Polypropylene”(HSPP) is a soft, durable, colorfast, non-shedding, moth proof and easy to maintain product and is a highly desirable yarn for producing machine-made rugs.
Smartstrand
This fiber is partially made with corn sugar instead of petroleum. Currently, Mohawk is the only manufacturer who produces PTT polyester/triexta/Sorona carpet, and they call the carpet Smartstrand.
Luxcelle Fiber
Luxcelle rugs are manufactured by Nourison Industries, and are made with a trademark fiber called Luxcelle. A Luxcelle rug gives the homeowner a handwoven look at a much lower price. Luxcelle is a silk-like thread found in the cellulose of purified cotton fiber. This light-reflecting fiber retains color, adds strength and gives the rug a luminous sheen.
Nylon
A polymer plastic with super-long, heavy molecules built up of short, endlessly repeating sections of atoms, just like a heavy metal chain is made of ever-repeating links. Nylon is not actually one, single substance but the name given to a whole family of very similar materials called polyamides.
